Queens by Michael Cunningham5/27/2023 “The Snow Queen” takes its title from one of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, which might suggest Cunningham’s regard for the substance of things not seen. As Carlene Bauer writes in the current issue of the Virginia Quarterly Review, “The literary novel, current American edition, does not seem to be where we go to work out our relation to the numinous.” Signs and wonders are simply misinterpreted natural phenomena or symptoms of psychological illness, aren’t they? Best served cold by joe abercrombie5/27/2023 Also the autistic quiet Friendly was really interesting and fun to read. The banter from Cosca just lands every time. I also loved Some of the characters in this book. I rather love it in this book and the previous trilogy: Example: -mercy and cowardice. A friend of mine thought that was so annoying. I love how he isn’t afraid to literally repeat a saying or line. I like his repetitive style (probably not the best way to put it) but you know what I mean. It was well written, entertaining, and never had trouble picking it up. I loved the First Law and wasn’t gonna read the Stand alones but I was convinced by everyone on Reddit saying they are some of if not his best work. Quite refreshing journey it has been indeed. I have been reading Joe Abercrombie while waiting for Brandon Sanderson’s 4th book comes out and I’ve been loving it. |
